Artist Name Guidelines

< 1 min read

  1. Unique Name
Ensure your artist or band name is not already in use to prevent catalog conflicts.
  2. Primary Artist Assignment
  • Single-track releases: primary artist(s) must match at both album and track level.
  • Multi-track releases: all primary artists must appear in their respective tracks; albums with 4+ primary artists must use “Various Artists” at album level.
  1. Use of “Various Artists”
Only for albums with 4+ primary artists. Do not combine with other artist names or use abbreviations.
  2. Composer Credits
  • Standard releases: composers appear only at track level.
  • Classical releases: composers appear at both album and track levels; 4+ composers at album level = “Various Composers”.
  1. Name Format & Spelling
Keep consistent spelling across all releases. Capital letters only for acronyms, unpronounceable names, or approved exceptions.
  2. No Extra Information
Artist names must not include roles, dates, instruments, band type, or website links.
  3. Single Artist per Field
Do not combine multiple performers in one artist field unless officially recognized as a band.
  4. Avoid Generic Names
Names like “Chorus,” “Orchestra,” or “Singer” are not allowed; use specific person, group, or production names.
  5. Original Artist Names
Do not include original artist names in karaoke, tribute, parody, cover, or ringtone releases.
