Guidelines for Selecting Genres

< 1 min read

1. Accuracy is Key
Always ensure the genre you choose reflects the actual style and content of your tracks. Genres are available for selection at both the album and track levels on the platform.

2. Classical Music Limitations
Tracks categorized under “Classical” or its subgenres (like “Classical/Orchestral,” “Classical/Opera,” or “Classical/Piano”) can only be distributed to iTunes or Apple Music if they are original or contemporary compositions. Traditional classical recordings are not eligible.

3. Soundtrack Usage
The “Soundtrack” genre is reserved for music directly linked to visual media, such as films, series, video games, musicals, or documentaries. If your music is simply inspired by media but not part of a production, select a genre that represents the musical style instead.

4. Karaoke Tracks
If your release is a karaoke or instrumental version, the primary genre should be “Karaoke.” The secondary genre should reflect the original song’s style.

5. Fitness & Workout Music
This genre is allowed only when it fits the concept and metadata of the release. Do not use generic terms such as “Motivational,” “Workout,” or “Cardio” in the artist or track title fields.
